Red Dragon Metal Art was created by husband and wife team Paul and Nicky Stanway. The inspiration to start came as a direct response to the Coronavirus pandemic, allowing a lockdown life that incorporated creativity and the flexibility that fits in with Nicky’s role as a carer for her parents.
Having initially chosen a career in chemistry Paul left the labs and started on a path of mechanical engineering and computer aided design. 15 years later this resulted with him supervising a CNC wire forming / fabrication workshop.
Whilst on furlough in 2020 Paul took to tinkering in “Fred the Shed”, forming some of his first metal art from scrap copper pipe scavenged from his Father in Laws workshop. So a seed was planted and ideas started to grow and it wasn’t long before Red Dragon Metal Art was born.
Whilst Paul takes care of the design and hammer swinging, the administration and dispatching is taken care of by Nicky.
As for the name Red Dragon Metal Art, it’s a celebration of Paul’s maternal family heritage; more “land of my mother’s, than land of my fathers”.
